What are the types of breast cancer?
You and your doctor need to know the type of breast cancer you need to get the best results. Your treatment will depend on where your cancer starts, whether it invades other breast tissues, whether it spreads to other parts of your body, and whether it increases the growth of hormones like estrogen or progesterone among other factors.

Most breast cancers are carcinomas or cancers that start in cells that cover organs or tissues. While "in situ" breast cancers have not spread to surrounding tissue, which has made them more treatable, invasive "invasive" breast cancers have invaded the surrounding tissue. "Metastatic" breast cancer means that your body has spread to other areas such as the lungs, bones, liver or brain. And "recurrent" breast cancer means breast cancer has returned.
